Above all, the animals need good food, particularly specialised food. Blankets, pillowcases and towels will also come in handy. However, the shelter does not accept quilts, pillows, mattresses, sponges, carpets, rugs, sleeping bags or clothing.
Why is this so important and how else can you help? Marta Olesińska, director of the Animal Shelter in Lodz discussed this issue in our last year's text.
As a socially responsible university, University of Lodz has been supporting homeless animals for many years. Thanks to the joint commitment of our community members, during 10 editions of the campaign we have collected more than 4.1 tonnes of food, as well as accessories that dogs and cats need. In addition, a special edition of the campaign was held in June 2019. It aimed at educating and raising awareness concerning adopting homeless animals, debunking myths about adoption and presenting different forms of assistance. We also organised a meeting with the representatives of the Animal Shelter in Lodz, the Bulldog Crew and the Kocia Mama Foundation, under which we discussed the situation of animals in shelters and adoption. Our student specialising in canine-assisted therapy, talked about the effects of dogs on stress reduction in humans. In 2020, the Technical University of Lodz joined our campaign and collected almost 100 kg of pet food. We are very pleased that this initiative is constantly growing.
